Forty years ago, WCL launched its International Legal Studies Program to prepare lawyers for the complex realities of working across borders. Since then, the program has trained more than 4,500 lawyers from 60 countries in areas including international commercial arbitration, international business and trade, human rights law, and intellectual property law. The Law Merchant, a precursor to modern commercial law, emphasised the freedom to contract and alienability of property.
