Healthy Valentine’s Day Gift – Maria Mind Body Health

Valentine’s Day is coming! Say what you will about Valentine’s Day, but I do love making it special. I get healthy gifts for all of my boys to make it special. It’s a day for love and I like to show my boys how much I love them. HEALTHY GIFTS THAT “KEEP ON GIVING” I love gifting the “Gift that Keeps Giving the All Year Long” as cousin Eddie would say! And a sauna blanket is the perfect gift to give to your loved one! Not only because every time they use it, they will think of your generosity, but…

Although most small business returns filed every year don’t get audited, the IRS is certainly becoming more active. For instance, in November 2020, the IRS announced it would ramp up audits of small businesses by 50% in 2021. I am the only female in my high school PE department. It’s been this way for 20 years. The one time another female came in she tried to out-alpha the football coach and got removed from teaching PE and placed in Health. I think she might have taught one section of PE in the two years she was here, and I think it was Adapted PE. Since we’ve had a fully working weight room, it was always paired with the football coach. We got a new one this year, the fifth in my tenure working at this same high school.…

Education and especially scholastic sports have undergone significant shifts over the last twenty years. The last few years of the pandemic have sped up this process and shown us the great value sports can have on a student’s entire life as well as on an entire school community. At its core, education should be dynamic, progressive and at the forefront of today’s changing landscape and school athletic programs should be no exception. Today there are more schools, more leagues, more programs, more changes to personnel, and of course more options on how people spend their time. My hope is that…

Jacksonville small business owners hope you shop locally

There are just two weeks left before Christmas, and small businesses hope shoppers consider buying locally. The Pop Up in the Park: Holiday Market at James Weldon Johnson Park was a day full of local vendors. “If you come down and you buy from the people who live here, the people, the artists, the partisans who build things locally, you’re supporting the local community,” said Chris Gresham, co-Owner of 215DesignsJax. “And it’s not going to be something that’s in the store. It’s very unique, personal, and special,” said Dianne Woods, owner of Jim and Bunny Handcrafted Soap. With Christmas coming…

Coding Pathways with Ozobots in PE – PHE America

I love finding creative ways to incorporate STEAM into Physical Education. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. I was at my daughter’s Open House for her enrichment class in Bayport where she was showing me how her class was using Ozobots to practice coding. I was immediately intrigued by these little coding robots. I immediately noticed how the students’ faces lit up with excitement as they explained to their parents all the functions you could perform with them. Immediately I thought, “what if we combine fitness activities with coding”? What a great way to relate to the…
