Slaymaker Reflects on a 64-Year Career Teaching Basketball – PHE America

the Peabody Gazette-Herald bobbed high above the boy’s head as he shouted, “The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor! The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor!” Five-year-old Ron Slaymaker watched the paper boy, uncertain about all the commotion on December 7, 1941. “I remember that day,” recalled Slaymaker. “For the next four years, we were involved in World War II. Everything changed. We had to sacrifice. All the news was about the war.” Slaymaker enjoys telling stories and at 86 years old he has a lot to share. His tales entertain and often he adds flavor, and exaggerations to key details for a greater…

Zero Carb Mozzarella Sticks – Maria Mind Body Health

If you haven’t noticed, I do not allow advertising on my site. I just didn’t agree with some of the products that were advertised. It was hard to say no to blog advertisements; they pay thousands of dollars a month, but I just feel uncomfortable about having the products I didn’t recommend on my website. Instead, I have created a shopping list where you can find all the healthy ingredients that are difficult to find in grocery stores (and if you do…

Minnesota rolls out $25M small business loan participation program

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) on Monday rolled out a $25 million small business loan participation program. It is the sixth and final funding stream the state has launched as part of its $97 million State Small Business Credit Initiative. In the newest program, DEED says it will purchase 25% to 30% of loan participations made by community development financial institutions (CDFis) and nonprofit lenders. Small Business Saturday, art walk event, drew customers downtown

FARMINGTON – One sign business is booming in the Studio Bake Shoppe at the Artifiacts 302 gallery is when they start to run out of milk. Big time. Owner Bev Taylor left the cash register to buy eight more gallons of milk for a long line of patient diners waiting for coffee and baked goods to bring people to the place even on a quiet day. And Nov. 26 was no quiet day. “We’re doing great,” Taylor said after ringing up a couple more customers around 4 pm as the golden afternoon sun slid through the windows. “We started at…

A Practical Approach to Confidence – PHE America

(3 minute Read) When I study confidence, I always come away with two distinct themes and one troubling thought. First, it is obvious that confidence is important, so important that even when we are tricked into making it, we perform better (Vealey & Chase, 2008). Second, it is almost always described as a feeling (Burton & Raedeke, 2008; Vealey & Chase, 2008; Zinsser, Bunker, & Williams, 2010). The part that always troubled me was why we would leave something so important up to how we feel about it. After all, the only time confidence matters is when it is tested…
