Tawanda Chiota’s journey to becoming a Certified International Trade Professional began in China, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in international economics and trade. Living in a country with a dynamic trading economy gave him a unique perspective on global commerce.

He witnessed port cities, export-driven manufacturing, and logistics networks firsthand, which sparked his interest in international trade. This experience laid the foundation for a career in consulting, export development, and international transportation.

From China to Canada: A Career in International Trade

During an internship with Sinotrans, a Chinese logistics company, Tawanda gained practical experience in export documentation, port operations, and international shipping coordination. This solidified his interest in global supply chains and the forces shaping international trade.

After completing a master’s degree in political science focused on international trade relations, Tawanda worked as an international business consultant, supporting Canadian exporters in Newfoundland and Labrador. He helped seafood and other SMEs prepare for international markets, conducting market-entry research and export-readiness assessments.

A Recognized Professional Credential

Tawanda’s diverse career led him to pursue the CITP designation, a recognized professional credential in international trade. This designation validated his academic background and practical experience, while also providing access to a community of like-minded professionals.

As a Senior Business Analyst in International Transportation at Canadian Tire Corporation, Tawanda applies his expertise to a complex global supply chain. The CITP designation has strengthened his credibility and provided a framework for growth in this field.
