Trioworld earns North America’s First Recycled Plastics Certification

Trioworld has become the first North American company to earn the RecyClass recycled plastics traceability certification at its Ajax plant in Ontario, confirming that three of its stretch film products contain at least 30% post‑consumer recycled plastic.

Certification verifies recycled content in stretch films

The RecyClass certification, which follows the EN 15343:2007 standard, was awarded after third‑party auditors examined the entire production chain at the Ajax facility. The audit confirmed that the Axis Loop, VMaxx Loop and StretchMax Loop films meet the minimum recycled‑content threshold and that the material can be traced from source to finished roll.

Trioworld says the certification will help its customers meet tightening recycled‑content requirements in both North America and Europe, where packaging regulations are becoming stricter.

“Our customers need to be able to stand behind their own sustainability commitments, and that requires suppliers who can demonstrate what is actually in the product,” said Ricardo Cardoso, president of Trioworld North America. “This certification gives them that. It is independent, it is audited and it is traceable.”

Investments expand capacity and sustainability

The Ajax site has benefited from a EUR 70 million investment over recent years, boosting annual production to more than 135 000 tonnes of plastics. Earlier this year the plant added a 67‑layer nano stretch film line designed to increase output of high‑performance films that incorporate recycled material.

Trioworld’s broader strategy includes similar certifications at several European facilities, which already hold RecyClass approval for recycled‑content or recycling processes. The ambition, as stated in public materials, is to build fully verifiable circular supply chains.

In addition to the stretch film lines, the Swedish‑headquartered firm runs three advanced recycling plants in Sweden, Denmark and France, collectively treating about 25 000 tonnes of plastics each year.

While the certification marks a milestone for North America, it also highlights a shift in the packaging industry toward more transparent sourcing. Companies that can prove the recycled nature of their inputs are better positioned to satisfy buyers who are increasingly scrutinizing supply‑chain sustainability. This trend reflects broader market pressures rather than a single corporate initiative.

Cardoso credited the Ajax workforce for the achievement. “Achieving this certification on the initial audit is a sign to the commitment of our Ajax team and the rigour they bring to every step of our process. It gives our customers something real to stand behind.”

Trioworld manufactures polyethylene and polypropylene films for sectors such as transport packaging, agriculture, healthcare and retail, operating 18 production sites across Europe, North America and South Asia.
